Push the Sky Away — Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds

Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds

Push the Sky Away

First released

Push the Sky Away, released in 2013, was recorded at various locations including Woodstock in New York and studios in Brighton, England, marking a shift toward a more intimate and experimental sound for Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds. The album was produced by Nick Cave and Warren Ellis alongside producer Nigel Godrich, who brought significant influence to the project's sonic direction. The recording process emphasized sparse arrangements and electronic elements, departing from the band's traditional guitar-driven approach. Key technical choices included extensive use of synthesizers, drum machines, and atmospheric production techniques that reflected the influence of electronic music. This was the band's first album following the deaths of longtime member Blixa Bargeld's departure from the touring lineup, and it represented a creative renewal for the group during a transitional period in their career.
