Come Away With Me, Norah Jones's debut album released in 2002, was recorded primarily at Electric Lady Studios in New York City and Sorcerer Sound, also in New York, between 2000 and 2001. The album was produced by Arif Mardin, a legendary producer known for his work with Atlantic Records artists, along with co-producer Jay Newland and engineer Ryan Freeland. The production emphasized warm, organic sound with live instrumentation and minimal digital processing, featuring Jones performing vocals and piano alongside accomplished session musicians in intimate studio settings. The album's classic soul and jazz-influenced production aesthetic was a deliberate choice to complement Jones's vocal style and marked a departure from the heavily produced pop sound dominating the early 2000s. Released in February 2002, the album became a massive commercial and critical success, winning eight Grammy Awards in 2003 and establishing Jones as a major artist while revitalizing interest in jazz and soul music among mainstream audiences.
