Opeth

Blackwater Park

First released

Blackwater Park was recorded at Studio Fredman in Gothenburg, Sweden between March and May 2001. The album was produced by Opeth and engineered by Fredrik Nordström, who had worked with the band on previous releases and was instrumental in shaping the album's polished yet heavy sound. The band employed a more accessible approach to songwriting compared to their earlier work, incorporating cleaner vocals and more melodic passages alongside their signature death metal elements. Nordström's production emphasized clarity and separation of instruments while maintaining the heaviness of the riffs, utilizing both analog and digital recording techniques. The album marked a significant commercial turning point for Opeth, becoming their most successful release to date and helping establish them as major figures in progressive metal.
