Peaceville — VILELP78

Still Life, the fifth studio album by Swedish progressive metal band Opeth, was recorded in 2011 at Studio Loewenstein in Germany with producer Fredrik Nordström, known for his work with metal bands like At the Gates and Bloodbound. The album marked a significant shift in Opeth's sound toward a more accessible progressive rock direction, moving away from the death metal elements that characterized their earlier work. Recording took place over several months with the band focusing on a more polished production approach compared to their previous albums. The technical and creative decisions during production reflected bandleader Mikael Åkerfeldt's evolving songwriting vision, emphasizing intricate guitar work, orchestral elements, and cleaner vocal performances alongside the remaining harsh vocals. Still Life was released in August 2012 and became one of Opeth's most commercially successful albums, solidifying their transition into progressive rock while retaining their technical metal foundation.
