Offramp, released in 1982, was recorded at Soundcastle Studios in Los Angeles and engineered by Val Garay, who was known for his work with major artists of that era. Producer David Rubinson oversaw the sessions, continuing his successful collaboration with Pat Metheny Group following their previous albums. The album featured Metheny's innovative use of synthesizers and guitar synthesis technology alongside traditional acoustic instrumentation, reflecting the expanding sonic palette of 1980s jazz fusion. The recording showcased the group's evolving approach to composition and arrangement, with Metheny experimenting with both electric and acoustic textures to create the album's distinctive atmospheric sound. Offramp became one of Pat Metheny Group's most acclaimed works and won the Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Performance.
