Paul McCartney

Flaming Pie

First released (1997)

Flaming Pie was recorded primarily between 1995 and 1997 at Paul McCartney's home studio (The Mill) in Sussex, as well as at Abbey Road Studios in London. The album was produced by McCartney himself, with Jeff Lynne co-producing several tracks, and George Martin producing the track "Beautiful Night." Engineers on the project included Geoff Emerick, Jon Jacobs, and Bob Ludwig handled mastering. The album was deeply influenced by McCartney's involvement in the Beatles Anthology project, which reconnected him with his musical roots and inspired him to take a more stripped-down, spontaneous approach, often recording with minimal overdubs and playing most instruments himself. Ringo Starr and Steve Miller were among the notable musicians who contributed performances to the record. Released in May 1997, Flaming Pie was widely regarded as one of McCartney's strongest solo efforts in years, reaching number two on the Billboard 200 and number two on the UK Albums Chart.
