Ten — Pearl Jam

Pearl Jam

Ten

First released

Pearl Jam's debut album "Ten" was recorded primarily at The Velocity Girl studio in Seattle and One on One Recording Studios in Los Angeles between 1989 and 1990. The album was produced by Rick Parashar and Pearl Jam, with Parashar playing a crucial role in shaping the band's sound during these formative sessions. Engineer Brett Eliason assisted in capturing the raw energy of the band's performances, which featured live takes and minimal overdubbing to preserve authenticity. The recording took place during the emergence of grunge as a commercial force, though Pearl Jam's approach emphasized songwriting and dynamics over the heavier aesthetic of their Seattle contemporaries. The album's success, driven partly by its organic production style and the hit single "Jeremy," helped define the sound of early 1990s rock and launched grunge into mainstream popularity.
