Vitalogy, Pearl Jam's fourth studio album, was recorded at Bad Animals Studio in Seattle and other locations during 1993-1994, with the band taking a more experimental and introspective approach following the massive success of Voodoo Doll. The album was produced by Pearl Jam themselves along with engineer Brendan O'Brien, who would become a longtime collaborator with the band. Recording sessions were marked by the band's desire to move away from conventional rock production, incorporating diverse instrumentation and unconventional song structures, with some tracks featuring acoustic arrangements and atmospheric soundscapes.
