Pearl Jam's second studio album "Vs." was recorded at CMAC Studios in North Bend, Washington during the summer of 1993 and early 1994. The band worked with producer Brendan O'Brien, who would become a longtime collaborator, alongside engineer Roman Chauliac. The recording process emphasized live instrumentation and raw performances, with the band intentionally choosing a more stripped-down approach compared to their debut "Ten." O'Brien helped capture the heavier, more aggressive sound that the band wanted to achieve, utilizing analog recording techniques that complemented their grunge aesthetic. The album was released in October 1994 and marked a significant commercial success, debuting at number one on the Billboard 200 and establishing Pearl Jam's creative direction beyond their initial breakthrough.
