So — Peter Gabriel

Peter Gabriel

So

First released

Peter Gabriel's album "So" was recorded primarily at Real World Studios in Box, Wiltshire, England, which Gabriel had recently established, along with additional sessions at other locations between 1985 and 1986. The album was produced by Peter Gabriel alongside Daniel Lanois, whose production expertise and sonic innovations were instrumental in shaping the album's distinctive sound. Gabriel and Lanois employed cutting-edge digital recording technology and experimental production techniques, including extensive use of drum machines, synthesizers, and unconventional percussion samples that defined the late 1980s pop aesthetic. The album featured contributions from various session musicians and producers, including Phil Collins on drums for certain tracks, and benefited from the newly available digital production tools that allowed for extensive layering and manipulation of sounds. "So" became one of Gabriel's most commercially successful albums, achieving platinum status worldwide and establishing Real World Studios as a premier recording facility.
