The Division Bell — Pink Floyd

Pink Floyd

The Division Bell

First released

The Division Bell was recorded primarily at Britannia Row Studios in London between 1993 and 1994, marking Pink Floyd's first studio album in fifteen years. The album was produced by the band members David Gilmour and Phil Manzanera, with engineer Andrew Jackson overseeing much of the technical work. The recording process featured extensive use of digital technology and sampling, representing a significant shift from the band's previous analog approaches, while Gilmour's guitar work and the incorporation of various vocal treatments defined much of the sonic palette. The album was created during a period of significant internal tension within the band, as bassist Roger Waters had departed years earlier, leaving Gilmour and keyboardist Rick Wright to reshape Pink Floyd's identity. The Division Bell became a commercial success upon its 1994 release, reaching number one in multiple countries and demonstrating the band's continued relevance in the 1990s music landscape.
