Pink Floyd

The Final Cut

First released

The Final Cut, Pink Floyd's eleventh studio album, was recorded primarily at Super Bear Studios in France and Britannia Row Studios in London between 1986 and 1987. The album was produced by Pink Floyd's David Gilmour and Phil Manzanera, with engineer Andrew Jackson overseeing much of the technical work. The production marked a significant shift toward a more electronic and synth-driven sound compared to previous Pink Floyd albums, with extensive use of sequencers and drum machines alongside traditional instrumentation. Recorded during a period of creative tension within the band, the album featured Gilmour as the dominant creative force, with Roger Waters having departed the group in 1985. The recording process utilized state-of-the-art digital technology of the era, representing Pink Floyd's embrace of 1980s production techniques.
