The Wall — Pink Floyd

Pink Floyd

The Wall

First released

The Wall was recorded between November 1978 and July 1979 at Super Soundstage Studios in Los Angeles, with additional sessions at other facilities. The album was produced by Bob Ezrin alongside Pink Floyd members David Gilmour and Roger Waters, who co-wrote the material. The production featured innovative use of sound effects, backing vocals from numerous session singers, and layered instrumentation to create the album's concept narrative about a rock star's psychological breakdown. Ezrin's production approach emphasized theatrical elements and studio experimentation, while the band employed multitrack recording to build complex arrangements. The album's commercial and critical success was driven by its ambitious conceptual framework and the technical expertise applied to translate Waters' narrative vision into a sonically cohesive double album.
