Capitol Records — SKBB-388

Ummagumma was recorded between 1968 and 1969 at EMI's Abbey Road Studios in London, with the band producing themselves alongside engineer John Leckie. The album is notable for being a double album with the first disc consisting of live recordings from various concerts, while the second disc featured studio tracks where each band member contributed individual instrumental compositions. The production reflected the band's increasing experimentation with multitrack recording techniques and varied instrumentation beyond their standard rock setup. Recording took place during a transitional period for Pink Floyd as they moved away from Syd Barrett-era psychedelia toward the more experimental and instrumental-focused sound that would characterize their later work. The album's title derives from a playful piece of nonsense vocabulary created by the band members themselves.
