Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab — MFSL 1-311

Pixies recorded Bossanova at Samurai Blue Studios in Los Angeles during 1990, working with producer Gil Norton who had previously collaborated with the band on Doolittle. The album marked a shift toward a more polished, accessible sound compared to the band's earlier work, with Norton encouraging cleaner production values and more structured songwriting. Engineer Paul Q. Kolderie worked alongside Norton on the project, contributing to the album's refined sonic character. The recording took place during a period of increased commercial success for the band following the release of Doolittle, influencing the decision to pursue a more radio-friendly approach. Bossanova was released in August 1990 and peaked at number 70 on the Billboard 200, establishing the band's sound during their peak commercial period in the early 1990s.
