Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab — UDSACD 2033

Doolittle, the second studio album by Pixies, was recorded at multiple studios including Forte Studios and One on One Recording Studios in Los Angeles during 1988-1989. The album was produced by Gil Norton, known for his work with post-punk and alternative bands, who helped shape the band's signature loud-quiet-loud dynamics and guitar-driven sound. Recording engineer Steve Albini contributed to the project, bringing his distinctive approach to capturing the band's raw energy and the clarity of their instrumental arrangements. The production featured extensive use of careful arrangement and layering, with particular attention paid to the contrast between Black Francis's intimate vocal delivery and the band's explosive instrumental passages. Doolittle was released in April 1989 and became the band's most commercially successful album while maintaining their avant-garde aesthetic, establishing influential templates for alternative rock production throughout the 1990s.
