Stories From the City, Stories From the Sea — PJ Harvey

PJ Harvey

Stories From the City, Stories From the Sea

First released

Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea was recorded at various locations in London during 2000, including Discuss Studios and RAK Studios, with additional sessions at other facilities. The album was produced by PJ Harvey herself alongside Nigel Godrich, who brought his experience from working with Radiohead to the project. The recording process emphasized live instrumentation and relatively raw production aesthetics compared to some contemporary alternative rock, with Harvey overseeing arrangements that featured her guitar work prominently alongside contributions from her touring band members. The album was released in September 2000 and marked a return to a more guitar-driven sound following the more experimental production of her previous work, drawing inspiration from Harvey's observations of urban life in London during the recording sessions.
