A Night at the Opera was recorded at multiple London studios including Rockfield Studios in Wales and various other facilities between 1975 and 1976. The album was produced by the band themselves alongside engineer Roy Thomas Baker, who had previously worked with Queen on earlier projects. The production featured extensive overdubbing and vocal layering techniques, with Freddie Mercury contributing elaborate multi-tracked vocals on several tracks, particularly on the operatic sections of "Bohemian Rhapsody." The album marked a significant technical achievement for its time, utilizing the advanced 24-track recording technology available in the mid-1970s. Released in November 1975, it was recorded during a period when Queen was at peak commercial and creative momentum, and it became one of their most successful and critically acclaimed works.
