Jazz

First released

Queen's 1978 album Jazz was recorded at the Mountain Studios in Montreux, Switzerland, and other locations during 1977-1978. The album was produced by Queen themselves along with engineer Mike Stone, who had worked with the band on previous projects. The band utilized analog recording technology and incorporated diverse musical influences ranging from funk and disco to hard rock, reflecting the varied artistic directions the members were exploring at the time. The album marked a departure from their earlier progressive rock sound and showcased Freddie Mercury's ambition to experiment with different genres and production techniques. Jazz was commercially successful despite receiving mixed critical reviews, reaching number 2 on the UK charts and establishing Queen's willingness to continually reinvent their musical style.
