First released

Queen's 1978 album Jazz was recorded primarily at the Super Bear Studios in Berre-les-Alpes, France, and Musicland Studios in Munich, Germany, during the summer and fall of 1977 and early 1978. The album was produced by Queen themselves alongside producer Roy Thomas Baker, who had worked with the band on previous projects. The band employed innovative recording techniques for the era, including extensive use of multitrack overdubbing and creative studio experimentation, particularly evident in the complex arrangements and layered vocal harmonies throughout the record. The album was engineered by various technical staff at both studios and reflected Queen's growing confidence in studio production during a period when they were exploring more diverse musical styles, from disco influences to rock and funk elements. Jazz marked a commercially successful period for Queen, reaching number two on the UK Albums Chart and demonstrating their ability to adapt their sound while maintaining their distinctive artistic identity.
