Amnesiac was recorded between 1999 and 2000 at various locations including EMI Studios in London and Radiohead's own facilities, alongside sessions that produced material for Kid A. The album was produced by Radiohead with Nigel Godrich, who had become the band's primary collaborator following OK Computer. The recording sessions were characterized by experimentation with electronic instruments, sampling, and unconventional song structures, reflecting the band's continued artistic evolution away from traditional rock arrangements. Godrich employed innovative mixing and production techniques to shape the album's dense, layered sound, with many tracks built from electronic foundations rather than live instrumentation. Released in June 2001, Amnesiac represented material from the same prolific period as Kid A but showcased different artistic choices, with songs arranged and produced to emphasize texture and atmosphere over conventional song dynamics.
