Ride recorded their debut album Nowhere at various studios in 1990, primarily at Miles Ahead Studios in Cambridge and other UK locations. The album was produced by Nick Davis and the band members themselves, with engineer Nigel Godrich contributing to the recording sessions. The production captured the band's shoegaze sound through heavy use of guitar layering, effects pedals, and lush atmospheric textures that defined the emerging shoegaze movement of the early 1990s. The recording process emphasized sonic experimentation and wall-of-sound production techniques characteristic of the genre, with particular attention paid to creating dense, reverb-drenched vocal and instrumental arrangements. Released in September 1990, Nowhere became a landmark shoegaze album and helped establish Ride as key figures in the scene alongside bands like My Bloody Valentine and Slowdive.
