Rock Bottom — Robert Wyatt

Robert Wyatt

Rock Bottom

First released

Rock Bottom, Robert Wyatt's third solo album, was recorded at various studios in London during 1973-1974, primarily at Virgin Records' facilities. The album was produced by Wyatt himself alongside Richard Mainwaring, with engineer John Leckie playing a crucial role in capturing the distinctive sound. Wyatt composed all the material and performed multiple instruments, creating intricate arrangements that blended rock, jazz, and experimental elements. The production was notably intimate and detailed, with Wyatt using overdubbing techniques to layer vocals and instruments, resulting in a densely textured sonic landscape. Released in 1974, the album marked an important artistic statement during a pivotal period following Wyatt's recovery from a serious accident in 1973.
