Every Picture Tells a Story — Rod Stewart

Rod Stewart

Every Picture Tells a Story

First released

Every Picture Tells a Story was recorded primarily at Mercury Studios in London during 1970-1971, with additional sessions at other UK studios. The album was produced by Rod Stewart and Mike Hugg, with engineer Roy Thomas Baker contributing significantly to the sound. Stewart drew heavily on his personal life for the songwriting and arranged the album to feature a mix of rock, folk, and soul influences, incorporating acoustic guitars and strings alongside electric instrumentation. The album's production emphasized a raw, organic sound that departed from the more polished production of contemporary rock records, contributing to its commercial and critical success when released in May 1971. Every Picture Tells a Story became Stewart's first number-one album in the UK and helped establish him as a major solo artist following his departure from the Faces.
