Roxy Music

Avalon

First released

Avalon, Roxy Music's final studio album, was recorded primarily at Townhouse Studios in London during 1982 under the production of Rhett Davies and the band themselves. The album marked a significant shift toward sophisticated adult contemporary pop and digital production techniques, featuring synthesizers and programming that reflected early 1980s studio technology. Key engineer Nick Davis worked alongside the production team to capture the polished, meticulously crafted sound that characterized the record. The recording sessions took place during a period of creative reinvention for the band, with Bryan Ferry's vision for a more refined, orchestral pop aesthetic driving the sonic direction. Avalon became Roxy Music's most commercially successful album, reaching number one in the UK and establishing a template for 1980s pop production that influenced numerous artists.
