Diamond Life

First released

Diamond Life, Sade's debut album released in 1984, was recorded primarily at the legendary AIR Studios in London and other London-based facilities. The album was produced by MikePickering and Sade Adu herself, with significant contributions from engineer Jon Hassell and mixer Richard Stannard. The production employed a sophisticated blend of live instrumentation and early digital technology, featuring session musicians including keyboardist Andrew Hale and bassist Paul S. Denman, who would become permanent band members. The album's smooth, minimalist aesthetic was a deliberate creative choice that distinguished it from the more heavily synthesized pop music of the era, establishing Sade's signature sound. Diamond Life became a critical and commercial success, reaching number two on the UK Albums Chart and establishing the foundation for Sade's enduring career in sophisticated adult contemporary music.
