Touch and Go Records — TG364LP

Spiderland was recorded at Electrical Audio in Chicago in 1989, a studio owned and operated by Steve Albini, who also engineered the album. The band recorded the album over several sessions, capturing their distinctive post-rock sound characterized by dynamic shifts between quiet, intricate passages and explosive crescendos. Albini's recording approach emphasized capturing the band's live instrumentation with minimal overdubbing, prioritizing natural sound and instrument separation. The album was mastered and released in 1991 on Touch and Go Records, becoming influential in the development of post-rock despite its initial limited commercial attention. The production's sparse, detailed sonic aesthetic became a template for the post-rock genre that emerged throughout the 1990s.
