Pygmalion — Slowdive

Slowdive

Pygmalion

First released

Slowdive's third studio album Pygmalion was recorded at Miles Showell's mastering facility The Strongroom and other London studios during 1994-1995, following the band's previous work at established recording facilities. The album was produced by Slowdive themselves alongside engineer Nick Davis, who had worked with the band on their earlier releases. The band experimented with orchestral arrangements, strings, and more textural production techniques compared to their previous shoegaze work, utilizing layered synthesizers and ambient soundscapes. This marked a significant sonic shift toward a more expansive, dream-pop influenced direction, moving away from the heavier guitar-driven approach of their earlier material. Pygmalion was released in 1995 and received mixed commercial reception at the time, though it later gained critical reevaluation for its innovative production and atmospheric qualities.
