Creation Records — crecd 168

Slowdive recorded Pygmalion at Miles Showell's Mastering in London and various other studios during 1994-1995, following the band's hiatus and internal conflicts that had disrupted their previous project. The album was produced by Slowdive themselves along with engineer Nick Davis, reflecting the band's desire for greater creative control after their experience with previous producers. The recording process was notably lengthy and perfectionist, with the band experimenting extensively with layered guitar textures, programming, and production techniques that pushed their shoegaze sound toward more electronic and ambient territory. Pygmalion marked a significant shift in the band's sonic approach, incorporating drum machines and synthesizers more prominently than their earlier work, which represented a deliberate artistic evolution during the mid-1990s. The album was released in 1995 and served as Slowdive's final studio release before their initial dissolution in 1997.
