Souvlaki

First released

Souvlaki, the second album by English shoegaze band Slowdive, was recorded at various studios including Hammersmith Studios in London during 1992-1993. The album was produced by the band themselves alongside engineer John Cornfield, who had worked with other prominent British acts of the era. The recording process involved extensive use of layered guitars, synthesizers, and studio effects to create the band's signature ethereal, texture-heavy sound that defined the shoegaze movement. The album was mastered and completed just as the shoegaze genre was beginning to face commercial decline in the mid-1990s. Despite initial modest reception, Souvlaki later became recognized as one of the definitive shoegaze records and a landmark of British alternative rock production from that period.
