Siamese Dream — Smashing Pumpkins

Smashing Pumpkins

Siamese Dream

First released

Siamese Dream was recorded at Capitol Studios in Hollywood and Trident Studios in Los Angeles during 1992, with producer Butch Vig and engineer Tom Baker overseeing the sessions. Butch Vig, known for his work with Nirvana's Nevermind, brought a polished yet heavy sonic approach that balanced Billy Corgan's ambitious songwriting with the band's raw energy. The recording utilized analog tape and featured extensive overdubbing and layering of guitars, establishing the densely textured sound that became the album's signature. The production took place during the early 1990s alternative rock explosion, positioning the Smashing Pumpkins within the wave of guitar-driven bands, though their more ornate arrangements set them apart from contemporaries. Released in July 1992, the album became a commercial and critical success, introducing their gothic-influenced alternative rock sound to mainstream audiences.
