Getz / Gilberto — Stan Getz / João Gilberto featuring Antônio Carlos Jobim

Getz/Gilberto was recorded in March 1964 at CBS Studios in New York, capturing the meeting of American cool jazz saxophonist Stan Getz with Brazilian bossa nova pioneers João Gilberto and Antônio Carlos Jobim. The album was produced by Creed Taylor, who had previously worked with Getz and understood how to bridge the jazz and bossa nova idioms, with engineer Phil Ramone overseeing the technical sessions. The recording featured a notably intimate approach, with Getz's tenor saxophone prominently placed in the mix and Jobim's guitar providing the harmonic foundation alongside his compositions. The album's breakout track "The Girl from Ipanema," featuring João Gilberto's wife Astrud Gilberto on vocals, became an unexpected commercial phenomenon and helped introduce bossa nova to mainstream American audiences, earning the album four Grammy Awards including Album of the Year in 1965.
