"The Joker" by Steve Miller Band was recorded in 1973 at the Record Plant in Los Angeles and Capitol Studios in Hollywood. The album was produced by Steve Miller himself along with engineer James Pulte, who played a significant role in capturing the band's sound during this period. The title track "The Joker" featured a distinctive synthesizer riff created using a Buchla synthesizer, which was a notable creative choice for mainstream rock at the time. The album was recorded during a creatively fertile period for Miller, following the success of "Fly Like an Eagle," and utilized analog recording technology standard to the era. "The Joker" became one of the band's most commercially successful albums, reaching number two on the Billboard 200 chart and spawning the enduring hit single of the same name.
