Couldn’t Stand the Weather — Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble

Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble

Couldn’t Stand the Weather

First released

Couldn't Stand the Weather, the second studio album by Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble, was recorded at the Power Station in New York City in 1984, following the commercial success of their debut. The album was produced by John Hammond Jr. and engineered by Richard Mullan, with mixing by veteran engineer Ed Cherney. Vaughan's guitar tone was shaped by his use of a Fender Stratocaster and vintage amplifiers, capturing his signature blues-rock sound through direct recording techniques and overdubbing. The recording sessions benefited from the Power Station's state-of-the-art facilities and marked a pivotal moment in establishing Vaughan's prominence during the blues revival of the 1980s. Released in March 1984, the album featured hit singles like "Pride and Joy" and became a commercial breakthrough that helped bring blues guitar back to mainstream radio.
