In Step — Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble

Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble

In Step

First released

In Step was recorded at Capitol Studios in Hollywood, California in 1989 and marked Stevie Ray Vaughan's only album produced by Richard Mullan, moving away from his previous collaborator Jim Vaughan. The album was engineered by Nile Rogers, known for his work with Chic, bringing a more polished production approach compared to Vaughan's earlier records. The recording sessions benefited from contributions by notable musicians including David Bowie on saxophone and Bonnie Raitt on backing vocals, reflecting Vaughan's growing prominence in mainstream music. In Step was released in June 1989 and won the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Blues Album in 1990, becoming one of Vaughan's most commercially successful releases before his death in a helicopter crash in August 1990.
