In Step — Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble

Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble

In Step

First released

In Step was recorded at The Hit Factory and Capitol Studios in Los Angeles during 1989, marking Stevie Ray Vaughan's first album as a sober musician following his recovery from addiction. The album was produced by Vaughan himself alongside engineer Jim Gaines, who had worked with him on previous projects and understood his sonic vision. Vaughan and Double Trouble recorded live in the studio to capture the band's tight interplay, with minimal overdubbing, emphasizing authenticity and spontaneity in their performances. The production showcased a more polished sound compared to earlier work while maintaining the raw blues and rock energy that defined the band, featuring cleaner guitar tones and well-defined rhythm section work. Released in June 1989, the album became the band's most commercially successful release and won a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Blues Album in 1990.
