In Step — Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble

Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble

In Step

First released

In Step was recorded at the Power Station in New York and One on One Recording Studios in Los Angeles during 1989, marking Stevie Ray Vaughan's first album as a sober musician following his recovery from addiction. The album was produced by Stevie Ray Vaughan and renowned producer Jerry Samuels, with engineering contributions that captured Vaughan's distinctive blues-rock guitar tone alongside the tight rhythm section of Tommy Shannon on bass and Chris Layton on drums. Vaughan employed a variety of guitars and amplifiers to achieve the rich, textured sound that defined the record, while the production showcased a more polished approach compared to some of his earlier work, without sacrificing the raw emotional intensity of his playing. The recording sessions benefited from Vaughan's renewed focus and creativity, resulting in an album that won a Grammy Award and demonstrated his continued evolution as both a guitarist and songwriter.
