Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab — UDSACD 2074

Texas Flood, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble's debut album, was recorded at Capitol Studios in Hollywood, California in 1983 and released in June 1983 on Epic Records. Producer John Hammond Jr., a legendary talent scout and producer, discovered Vaughan and oversaw the recording with engineer Richard Mullen, capturing the album in a relatively quick and straightforward manner that emphasized the band's raw live energy and blues authenticity. The album featured Vaughan's distinctive guitar tone, achieved through his combination of a 1959 Fender Stratocaster and various amplifiers, recorded with minimal overdubs to preserve the immediacy of the performances. Texas Flood arrived during a blues revival period in the early 1980s and became a commercial and critical success, introducing Vaughan's virtuosic guitar playing and the band's Texas blues sound to a mainstream audience and launching his career as one of the most influential blues musicians of his generation.
