Innervisions — Stevie Wonder

Stevie Wonder

Innervisions

First released

Innervisions was recorded primarily at the Record Plant in Los Angeles between 1972 and 1973, with Stevie Wonder serving as the primary creative force and producer alongside John Fischbach. The album was recorded using multitrack recording technology, with Wonder playing multiple instruments including keyboards, harmonica, and drums, showcasing his growing technical mastery in the studio. Recording sessions took place during a transformative period in Wonder's career following his renegotiation with Motown Records that granted him greater artistic control. The production incorporated synthesizers and complex arrangements that were innovative for early 1970s soul and funk music, reflecting Wonder's experimental approach to sound design. Innervisions, released in 1973, became a landmark achievement in African American music production and won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year in 1975.
