Tamla — T13-340C2

Songs in the Key of Life was recorded over approximately two years (1972-1976) at the Record Plant in Los Angeles and other studios, with Stevie Wonder serving as the primary creative force and producer alongside John Fischbach. The album was notable for Wonder's extensive use of synthesizers and multitrack recording technology, layering numerous instruments and vocal parts to create its expansive sound. Recording took place during a period when Wonder had recently renegotiated his contract with Motown Records, giving him greater creative control over his material. The production involved complex arrangements and overdubbing techniques that showcased the capabilities of 24-track recording technology available at the time. The double album, released in September 1976, represented the culmination of Wonder's artistic experimentation and became one of the most acclaimed and technically ambitious projects in R&B and popular music history.
