I Should Coco, Supergrass's debut album released in 1994, was recorded primarily at Miles Copeland's Chateau de Marouatte studio in France during the summer of 1994. The album was produced by Nigel Godrich and Sam Williams, with the band working in a relatively relaxed and spontaneous environment that captured their youthful energy and punk-influenced Britpop sound. The recording sessions benefited from the band's tight live chemistry, as much of the material had been developed through extensive gigging before entering the studio. The production prioritized raw energy and organic instrumentation over heavily layered overdubs, reflecting the lo-fi indie rock aesthetic of the mid-1990s Britpop era. The album's success helped establish Supergrass as one of the key acts of the 1990s British guitar music movement, alongside bands like Blur and Oasis.
