Laughing Stock, Talk Talk's fifth and final studio album, was recorded at various London studios including CMS Studios and Townhouse Studios between 1990 and 1991. The album was produced by Talk Talk and engineer/producer Paul Stevenson, who played a crucial role in shaping the band's experimental direction during these sessions. The recording process was notably unconventional, featuring live orchestral arrangements, improvisation, and extensive use of analog tape technology, with the band rejecting conventional pop structures in favor of jazz-influenced and abstract soundscapes.
