Currents, the third studio album by Tame Impala (Kevin Parker), was recorded primarily at Parker's home studio in Los Angeles between 2014 and 2015. Parker served as the primary producer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist on the album, working with mixing engineer Scott Desmarais and mastering engineer Emily Lazar. The production marked a significant shift toward electronic and synth-pop influenced sounds, with Parker using extensive synthesizers, drum machines, and digital production techniques rather than the guitar-based psychedelic rock of previous albums. The album was largely self-produced with Parker recording and arranging the majority of instrumental and vocal parts himself, making it a highly personal and controlled creative project. Released in July 2015, Currents represented both a commercial and critical success, establishing Parker's more dance and pop-oriented direction for the Tame Impala project.
