Currents, the third studio album by Tame Impala (Kevin Parker), was recorded primarily at Parker's home studio in Los Angeles between 2014 and 2015. Parker produced and engineered the album himself, marking a significant shift toward complete creative control and a more electronic, dance-oriented sound compared to previous work. The album was mixed by Dave Fridmann, known for his work with The Flaming Lips and other alternative acts. Parker utilized synthesizers, drum machines, and heavily processed vocals as central elements, departing from the guitar-driven psychedelic rock of earlier Tame Impala material. The album was released in July 2015 and reflected both technological advancements in home recording and the broader shift in psychedelic music toward electronic production during the mid-2010s.
