I Robot — The Alan Parsons Project

The Alan Parsons Project

I Robot

First released

I, Robot was recorded at multiple studios in Los Angeles and London between 1976 and 1977, with primary sessions at The Record Plant and other facilities. Alan Parsons produced and engineered the album, working alongside co-producer Eric Woolfson, who also contributed to the songwriting and conceptual direction. The album was notable for its extensive use of synthesizers and advanced production techniques available in the late 1970s, including innovative drum programming and multi-track recording methods. Parsons' background as an engineer on The Beatles and Pink Floyd albums directly informed the sophisticated production approach, making I, Robot one of the most technically ambitious concept albums of its era. The project was released in 1977 and represented a significant commercial and critical success for The Alan Parsons Project, establishing their signature sound of progressive rock with electronic elements.
