The UK 1968 mono first pressing is considered the reference and most desirable version of the album.

The Beatles, commonly known as "The White Album," was recorded between May and October 1968 at EMI's Abbey Road Studios in London, with additional sessions at George Harrison's home studio. The album was produced by George Martin with engineer Geoff Emerick, marking a shift toward more experimental and individualistic songwriting from each band member. The sessions were characterized by the band's increasing separation, with members often recording their parts independently rather than playing together as a unit. The recording introduced diverse instrumentation and production techniques, including the use of orchestral arrangements, tape loops, and unconventional studio effects that reflected the band's experimental approach during this period. The album's double-album format and vast range of musical styles made it one of the most ambitious recording projects in popular music history at the time.
