The Black Keys recorded Rubber Factory in 2003 at a converted rubber factory in Akron, Ohio, which served as both studio and living space for the band during production. The album was self-produced by the duo of Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney with engineer危险 (actually recorded with minimal outside involvement), capturing a raw, lo-fi aesthetic that became signature to their early work. The sparse recording setup, utilizing vintage and often damaged equipment, contributed to the album's intentionally distorted and gritty sound that defined their blues-rock approach. Recorded on a modest budget with basic equipment in an unconventional space, the album's production reflected the band's DIY ethos and became influential in the garage rock revival of the 2000s.
