Fat Possum Records — 80379-ISLE

The Black Keys recorded Rubber Factory in 2003 at Muscle Shoals Sound Studio in Alabama, a legendary facility known for its vintage equipment and rich recording history. The album was produced by the band members themselves along with engineer David Keeping, who helped capture their raw blues-rock sound using analog recording techniques and minimal overdubbing. The duo chose to record live in the studio to preserve the spontaneous energy and authenticity of their performances, eschewing heavily produced arrangements. The sparse, two-piece instrumentation of Dan Auerbach on guitar and vocals and Patrick Carney on drums was recorded with straightforward microphone placement and classic tube equipment available at the studio. This approach, combined with the studio's acoustic character, contributed to the album's distinctive warm tone and established The Black Keys' signature raw, blues-influenced aesthetic that would define their early work.
