Elektra — STE-60855

Disintegration was recorded primarily at The Church Studios in London between September 1988 and June 1989, with additional sessions at other London facilities. Producer Chris Parry and engineer Mike Headline oversaw the recording, with the band working extensively on layering and texture to create the album's lush, atmospheric sound. Robert Smith's songwriting during this period reflected personal turmoil and emotional introspection, resulting in the album's darker tone compared to The Cure's previous work. The production made significant use of synthesizers, drum machines, and multi-tracked vocal arrangements to build the album's dense sonic landscape. Released in May 1989, Disintegration became the band's most commercially successful album and is widely regarded as one of the greatest albums of the 1980s.
