Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab — UDSACD 2300 · Warner Bros. Records — UDSACD 2300

"Minute by Minute" was recorded at The Record Plant in Los Angeles and Capitol Studios between 1977 and 1978, during a period when the Doobie Brothers were transitioning toward a more sophisticated pop-rock sound. The album was produced by the band members themselves along with Ted Templeman, who had worked extensively with the group on previous projects. Engineers including Vie Avis and others employed advanced multitrack recording techniques and meticulous overdubbing to achieve the polished, layered production style that defined the record. The sessions took considerable time and resources, reflecting the band's perfectionist approach to songwriting and arrangement during this era. Released in February 1978, the album became their most commercially successful work, winning the Grammy Award for Album of the Year in 1979, and marked a significant shift toward mainstream pop accessibility compared to their earlier rock-oriented material.
