Minute by Minute, released in 1978, was recorded at The Record Plant in Los Angeles and produced by The Doobie Brothers themselves along with engineer Keith Olsen, known for his work on Fleetwood Mac's Rumours. The album was meticulously crafted using multitrack recording techniques and featured extensive overdubbing, reflecting the sophisticated studio production standards of the late 1970s. The recording sessions took several months and showcased the band's evolution toward a more polished, pop-oriented sound compared to their earlier rock roots. The album became a commercial and critical success, winning the Grammy Award for Album of the Year in 1979, cementing the era's preference for carefully produced, radio-friendly rock music.
