Morrison Hotel was recorded at both the Sunset Sound Recorders and The Doors' workshop in Los Angeles during late 1969 and early 1970, marking a return to a more blues-rock oriented sound after the experimental Waiting for the Sun. The album was produced by The Doors themselves with engineer Bruce Botnick, who had worked on their previous releases and provided crucial technical expertise in capturing the band's raw, live-in-the-studio approach. The sessions emphasized live performances and minimal overdubbing, reflecting the band's desire to reconnect with blues and rock traditions rather than pursuing further psychedelic experimentation. Released in February 1970, the album showcased the band's tighter musicianship and featured the hit single Roadhouse Blues, which became one of their most enduring songs. The production represented a deliberate artistic shift that helped sustain The Doors' commercial and critical relevance during a transitional period in rock music.
