Are You Experienced was recorded primarily at Olympic Studios in London between October 1966 and April 1967, with additional sessions at De Lane Lea Studios. Producer Chas Chandler, Hendrix's manager and former Animals bassist, oversaw the project alongside engineer Eddie Kramer, who became instrumental in capturing Hendrix's innovative guitar sound. The album featured groundbreaking recording techniques including extensive use of guitar effects, unconventional microphone placement, and layered overdubbing that showcased Hendrix's creative approach to the studio as an instrument. Recorded on four-track equipment, the sessions demonstrated technical ingenuity in achieving the album's distinctive sound despite the limitations of the era's recording technology. The album's May 1967 release established new standards for rock production and solidified Hendrix's reputation as both a guitarist and studio innovator.
