Are You Experienced — The Jimi Hendrix Experience

The Jimi Hendrix Experience

Are You Experienced

First released

Are You Experienced was recorded primarily at Olympic Sound Studios in London between October 1966 and April 1967, with additional sessions at De Lane Lea Studios. Producer Chas Chandler and engineer Eddie Kramer oversaw the recording, with Kramer becoming instrumental in capturing Hendrix's innovative guitar work and experimental approach to the instrument. The album featured groundbreaking use of studio techniques including backwards recording, extensive use of effects pedals, and unconventional microphone placement to achieve Hendrix's distinctive sound. Hendrix's unconventional left-handed playing style, combined with his exploration of fuzz, wah-wah, and distortion effects, fundamentally changed rock music's sonic possibilities. Released in May 1967 in the UK and August 1967 in the US, the album emerged during the height of psychedelia and established Hendrix as a revolutionary figure in popular music.
