London Records — PS 539

Beggars Banquet was recorded between March and July 1968 at Olympic Studios in London, with the Rolling Stones working primarily with producer Jimmy Miller, who brought a fresh approach to the band's sound. The album marked a significant return to blues roots after the psychedelic experimentation of their previous work, featuring stripped-down arrangements and rawer production aesthetics compared to their mid-1960s output. Engineer Glyn Johns played a crucial role in capturing the band's live energy, utilizing innovative miking techniques and prioritizing organic instrumental sounds over studio effects. The recording sessions were characterized by creative spontaneity, with many tracks recorded live in the studio to preserve the band's natural chemistry and blues authenticity. Released in December 1968, the album arrived during a period of social upheaval and represented the Stones' artistic reassertion, establishing the sonic template that would define their most celebrated period throughout the 1970s.
