The Smile

A Light for Attracting Attention

First released

A Light for Attracting Attention, the debut album by The Smile (Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood, and Tom Skinner), was recorded primarily at Abbey Road Studios in London during 2021-2022. The album was produced by Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood alongside producer Paul Thomas Shellac, with engineering contributions from Nigel Godrich, who has long collaborated with Radiohead. The recording sessions marked a return to more organic, band-oriented production compared to some of Yorke's previous solo electronic work, incorporating live instrumentation alongside electronic elements. The album was released in May 2022 and represented the first official collaborative project between Yorke and Greenwood outside of Radiohead, establishing The Smile as a distinct musical entity.
