The Queen Is Dead, the third studio album by The Smiths, was recorded primarily at London's RAK Studios and other facilities between late 1985 and early 1986. The album was produced by the band's longtime collaborator John Porter, who had worked with them since their debut, alongside engineer Stephen Street, who became increasingly influential in shaping the album's sound. The production marked a departure toward a fuller, more orchestral arrangement compared to their previous work, featuring prominent use of strings and other instrumentation arranged by Craig Leon.
