Monk’s Dream — The Thelonious Monk Quartet

The Thelonious Monk Quartet

Monk’s Dream

First released

Monk's Dream was recorded by The Thelonious Monk Quartet in October 1962 at Columbia Records' 30th Street Studio in New York City. The album was produced by Teo Macero, who served as Columbia's chief producer for jazz sessions during this period. The recording featured Monk's working quartet of the era, including Charlie Rouse on tenor saxophone, John Ore on bass, and Frankie Dunlop on drums. The sessions took place during a creatively productive period for Monk, coming after his earlier recordings for Columbia and reflecting his mature compositional and improvisational approach. The album was released in 1963 and represented Monk's continued exploration of his distinctive piano style alongside standards and original compositions.
